What Ken treats

Mice & Rats

Defend Pest Control finds how rodents are getting into your home and closes the route, across Weber County, Davis County, Salt Lake County and the surrounding area, so the problem ends instead of repeating.

Do you handle squirrels, raccoons, or other wildlife?

No. Ken's rodent work covers mice and rats. Squirrels, raccoons, skunks, and birds are wildlife work, which is a different trade with different equipment. Homeowners tend to call anything moving in the attic a rodent problem, and the two get mixed up constantly. If what you have turns out to be bigger than a mouse, Ken will tell you what he thinks you are dealing with rather than setting traps that were never going to work.

What this covers

House mice, deer mice and rats, in homes, garages, crawlspaces and outbuildings.

How Ken handles it

  1. He inspects before he treats

Rodent work starts with finding where they are getting in and what is drawing them. A plan built without that is guesswork, and it is why trapping alone so often fails.

  2. He shows you what he found

You get told where the entry points are and what is making the place attractive, in plain English. Some of it you can fix yourself, and Ken will say so.

  3. He sets a trapping and baiting plan

What goes where depends on what the inspection turned up. A crawlspace in an older Ogden home and a garage on the Pleasant View bench are different problems.

  4. He works the season

Rodent pressure runs heaviest from late fall through spring, when the cold pushes them indoors. Ken plans around that rather than treating every month the same way.

  5. He follows through until it is done

Rodent work is rarely finished in one visit. Ken comes back, checks the plan is working, and adjusts it if it is not.

One honest exception. Deer mice carry hantavirus, and the risk comes from sweeping or vacuuming dry droppings. If you find droppings in a shed or garage, wet them down with disinfectant before cleaning. Ken will tell you which species you have.

Common questions

What people ask before they book

How fast can you come out?
Usually within 24 hours. Ken runs Weber County and Brigham City on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and Davis County and Salt Lake County on Tuesdays and Thursdays, so you get scheduled into a day he is already in your area. Stinging insects jump ahead of routine service, because a wasp nest over the door you use every day is not something that waits until next week.
Is treatment safe for kids and pets?
Ken follows the product label exactly, and the label is what makes an application safe. He will not tell you a product is harmless, because that is not true of anything. What he will tell you is which areas to stay off and for how long, usually until the treatment dries. Most of the work happens outside on an exterior barrier, which keeps treatment away from the spaces your family actually uses.
What happens if I'm not home?
Ken treats the outside, leaves a record of exactly what he did, and moves on. If you needed interior work, or there is something you want him to look at, he comes back at no extra charge. Your scheduled day is the day he is already in your neighborhood, so being out that afternoon does not cost you the service.
Do I have to sign a contract?
No. There is no contract, no term to commit to and no cancellation fee. If you want to stop, you tell Ken and it stops. He would rather keep customers because the work holds up than because leaving is expensive.
