What Ken treats

Ants, Spiders & Household Insects

Defend Pest Control puts a barrier around the outside of your home so ants, spiders and seasonal invaders stay out of it, across Weber, Davis and Salt Lake County and the surrounding area.

Do you treat termites?

No. Ken does not do termite work, and he will not quote you for it. What he can do is tell you what you are actually looking at. Most of what gets brought to him turns out to be flying ants, which swarm in spring and look close enough to fool anyone. Ant swarmers have a pinched waist, bent antennae, and front wings longer than the back pair. Termite swarmers are straight-sided with four wings the same size. Either way you will know what you have before anyone quotes you a repair.

What this covers

The ordinary household pests that come in from outside, and the seasonal ones that arrive all at once.

How Ken handles it

  1. He works the outside first

Most of what Ken does happens outside, building a barrier at entry points, foundation lines, eaves and window wells. Keeping pests out beats treating them once they are in.

  2. He targets the nest, not the trail

Store bought spray kills the ants you can see and leaves the colony untouched, which is why the trail comes back. Reaching the colony is what actually ends it.

  3. He treats inside whenever you want it

If you need interior work, that is part of the service and not an upcharge. Ken comes back for it at a time that suits you.

  4. He times the seasonal ones

Box elder bugs migrate onto south and west walls in fall. Treating before that starts works. Spraying once they are already inside the walls mostly does not.

  5. He comes back if something gets through

Re-service between visits is free. If pests return before your next scheduled day, so does Ken.

One honest exception. Sometimes the problem is moisture rather than pests. Mulch piled against the foundation and sprinklers hitting the wall create the conditions earwigs and pill bugs need. Ken will tell you when fixing that will do more than spraying.

Common questions

What people ask before they book

Is treatment safe for kids and pets?
Ken follows the product label exactly, and the label is what makes an application safe. He will not tell you a product is harmless, because that is not true of anything. What he will tell you is which areas to stay off and for how long, usually until the treatment dries. Most of the work happens outside on an exterior barrier, which keeps treatment away from the spaces your family actually uses.
Do I have to sign a contract?
No. There is no contract, no term to commit to and no cancellation fee. If you want to stop, you tell Ken and it stops. He would rather keep customers because the work holds up than because leaving is expensive.
What happens if I'm not home?
Ken treats the outside, leaves a record of exactly what he did, and moves on. If you needed interior work, or there is something you want him to look at, he comes back at no extra charge. Your scheduled day is the day he is already in your neighborhood, so being out that afternoon does not cost you the service.
How fast can you come out?
Usually within 24 hours. Ken runs Weber County and Brigham City on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and Davis County and Salt Lake County on Tuesdays and Thursdays, so you get scheduled into a day he is already in your area. Stinging insects jump ahead of routine service, because a wasp nest over the door you use every day is not something that waits until next week.
